“Serco Awarded $170 Million Air Traffic Control Contract with the Federal Aviation Administration RESTON, VIRGINIA – February 1, 2010 – Serco, a provider of professional, technology, and management services to the federal government, announced today that the company has been awarded a contract to support the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Contract Tower (FCT) Program. Under this contract, Serco will provide air traffic control services at 64 sites in the United States and Pacific region. The contract is valued at approximately $170 million over 5 years.
Since 1994, Serco has managed approximately 55 towers. Through this contract win, Serco will now be responsible for a total of 64 sites spread across the western United States and Alaska, including new locations in Hawaii, Guam and Saipan. The company will provide air traffic control services in the tower to support the safety of incoming/outgoing aircraft, improve the efficiency of air traffic and provide information and support to the pilots.
“We employ over 300 air traffic controllers providing safe and efficient air traffic control services at over 60 airports. This win extends our long-term relationship with the FAA as an integral contributor to the National Airspace System,” said Steve Christmas, Vice President of Aviation at Serco.
As part of Serco Group, one of the largest contracted providers of Air Navigation Services worldwide, the company is responsible for more than 960,000 miles of airspace and handles more than six million aircraft movements a year. Serco employs more than 700 air traffic control specialists at over 75 airports – located in the U.S., U.K. and Middle East – who help maintain flight safety. In the U.S, the company has also been honored with the prestigious Willie F. Card Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Contract Tower Award 5 out of the past 7 years at towers in Lewiston, ID (2003), Phoenix-Mesa Gateway, AZ (2004), Jackson Hole, WY (2005), Goodyear, AZ (2008), and San Luis Obispo, CA (2009).”
“Time called on Serco’s NPL contract By Gill Plimmer Serco, the FTSE 100 outsourcing company, has lost its contract to run the National Physical Laboratory – which built the first atomic clock – after the government said it would seek academic partners to take over the centre instead. The laboratory has been managed by Serco on a profit-share basis since 1994. But David Willetts, science minister, has decided that the government can “encourage greater interaction with businesses” by ending the contract in March 2014, when the company’s 17-year tenure comes to an end.”
“Innoventor has been prime contractor at Warner Robbins Air Force Base for the cesium-based master regulating clock, a precision instrument that regulates secondary clocks in complicated systems, for the E-4B Advanced Airborne Command Post for the U.S. Air Force. The complicated project was done on time and under budget despite many changes in scope by the customer. Innoventor works often with Boeing, which builds the E-4B on, a variety of aircraft projects [including spread-betting times for the 9/11 war game], and with Lockheed Martin on solutions for the F-35 joint strike fighter plane.”
